"... but the need for people with language skills among UK businesses has never been higher..."
(Independant Newspaper)
And...
It's FUN!
You cover lots of subjects!
At AS/A2 level we build on the basic skills acquired at GCSE to use language in more complex situations whether it is enjoying a film, buying or selling something or winning an argument.
We base the course on an up-to-date course book with online materials which is written for the AQA specification. Lessons are also supplemented with a huge variety of other materials.
See the world: travel abroad is far more interesting when you can speak the language of the country you are visiting. In French, German and Spanish lessons you will learn more about the countries where the language is spoken. There will be opportunities to visit France, Germany and Spain during your studies.
Language assistants: As a Language College the school is very fortunate to be able to employ language Assistants in at least two of the languages we offer to support in your studies both in and out of class
Variety of topics studied: the modules of work cover a wide range of subjects.
The AS course covers Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living/lifestyle and Family/relationships.
The A2 course covers Environment, the Multi-cultural Society, Contemporary Social Issues and a cultural topic. There are four units:

You can also achieve an A* in your A Level if you achieve an A overall and you average 90% in your A2 modules.
We advise that anyone who achieves a grade B or above in their GCSE.
You’ll learn more than just a language: when you learn a language you develop skills which are transferable to lots of different situations, both at work and in your relationships with other people: arguing and explaining your opinions, convincing people that your ideas are worth hearing, understanding someone else’s point of view. Linguists are generally confident communicators- it is not a coincidence that students elected as Head students of this school are more often that not linguists.
Languages can help you get a job: “the need for people with language skills inUK businesses has never been higher”/ “one in fiveUK companies is losing business because it lacks language or cultural skills” – Independent
Unemployment rates are low among those who study a language at university
Average unemployment rate amongst graduates at the end of their graduation year is 7% - for French graduates the figure drops to 4% -BangorUniversity
Languages mix well: languages go really well with a wide range of subjects. You can combine languages with virtually anything.
Talk to your Languages teacher and get some advice as to whether the course could be right for you. Making an appointment to see your school careers advisor is also a good idea.
