Update 18th March

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, can I thank you all for your ongoing support. I am sure you can appreciate the challenges the escalating situation around Coronavirus is presenting to us at school. At the moment we have no choice but to follow Government advice and are doing everything we can to stay fully open. Like many other schools, as more and more staff are forced to self-isolate, we may, at some stage, need to reconsider this. I will of course keep you updated and give you as much notice as I can if things change. Just to re-emphasise, if we need to partially close, or indeed the Government decide to close schools, teachers will ensure work is set regularly using Itslearning and it will be important that you ensure your child completes all work set.

In response to the current situation we have taken some additional precautions in school. We continue to re-emphasise the importance of washing hands regularly, particularly on arrival at school and both before and after lunch. Unfortunately, we are unable to source hand sanitiser but there is a good supply of soap in all toilets. Many parents have armed their children with personal hand sanitiser, and they can use this whenever they feel the need to. We have cancelled all nonessential school activities such as trips, visitors into school, sports fixtures, parent evenings etc. I have asked the kitchen staff to wipe the fingerprint machines after every child passes through the till and PE are reverting to paper registers. I have also closed the cash revaluation machines in school so please top up your child’s dinner money using Parentpay. If you need to send your child in with cash, please ask them to take it to Mrs Best in the kitchen and she will manually enter this onto the system.

Can I remind you all to please follow Government advice regarding self-isolation. It is vitally important that you do not send your child in to school if they or anyone in their household are displaying any of the Coronavirus symptoms, however mild. These symptoms, as I am sure you are aware, are a persistent cough and/or a high temperature. If a student feels unwell in school, we will contact home and ask for them to be collected. Absences due to self-isolation will of course be authorised and no parent or carer will be penalised due to these absences. If you declare that your child is off school due to self-isolation we will record their absence from school for 14 days. For all other absences, please continue to contact school on a daily basis.

If you have any specific questions, concerns or need any advice please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Best wishes to you all at this difficult time
