Year 5 and 6 Open Evening – Wednesday 4th October 2017

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent or carer can make.  All of us want our children to be happy, healthy and to be successful in their own way.  Every child is unique and every child’s success can be measured in different ways.  You want to choose a school where your child will feel safe, be looked after and cared for, be challenged and be encouraged to do as well as they possibly can.  The young person’s experience in the five or seven years of secondary school is as much about relationships, ethos and support as it is about academic rigour and examination results.

Lady Lumley’s School gets good examination results for its students, not because we focus on these examinations as the be-all and end-all of schooling, but because we care about each individual and we know how to support and challenge each student.  We do some things differently at Lady Lumley’s because we know these things work; we are pretty much mixed ability throughout the school, there are no bells (more civilised and better punctuality) and three 100 minutes lessons a day.  Lady Lumley’s School places ‘knowing your students’ and ‘quality first teaching’ at the heart of everything it does.  Because of this, we get the teaching right, the learning right and the natural outcome is the strong achievement of the students.

We have well-qualified, highly motivated and dedicated staff, great students, wonderful facilities and high expectations.  Being an 11 to 18 school, our teachers have very high level subject expertise and this feeds into lessons throughout the school.  Our excellent sixth form students act as role models and mentors for younger students and give them a vision of the opportunities ahead.  We challenge ourselves as staff to continually improve what we do and to model the behaviours we want in our students.  The school motto is ‘Lady Lumley’s Loves Learning’ and that means creating a supportive environment where everyone feels safe and secure and can take the risks necessary to learn new things.

Lady Lumley’s Open Evening is an opportunity for you and your child to see the school and to find out as much as you can what life at Lady Lumley’s will be like.  We are very proud of the school and we want you to see as many classes, staff and students and as much of the school as you can.  When you come on the evening, please talk to the students who are already here and ask as many questions as you wish.  Look at everything on offer, talk to as many people as possible and get a ‘feel’ for the school.  I am sure you will know if it’s right for you.
