Dear Parents, Carers and Friends

Just over a year since we had our first visit from the Archbishop of York whilst he was on a pilgrimage through his diocese, we were pleased to welcome John Sentamu and his team back to Lady Lumley’s this Friday.  The guests had a tour of the school, lunch and a QnA session with students.   Two of our Year 8 boys, David Corney and Greg Towner showed the Archbishop around the school and he had a chance to talk to students in Art and Spanish classes. The Archbishop had an excellent school lunch in the canteen (thank you Mrs Best and team) with Lorraine Phippen, David, Greg and me.  We were also joined on the day by Father Antony Pritchett and Father Christopher Johnson from Pickering Parish Church.  Rather than hand-pick students to talk to the Archbishop (something he did not want) we asked the 17th student from each tutor group in Years 7 to 11 to meet him for 45 minutes in the afternoon.  The Archbishop was very open and honest in his replies to the students’ questions, including one which asked his opinion of the president elect of the United States.  It was lovely to be able to host the visit and the students appreciated the opportunity to meet him.
