KK_at_Lady_Lumleys_Pickering_101114Sixth-formers studying Government & Politics for A-level had a visit from a would-be MP in the upcoming General Election.

The students listened to Kevin Hollinrake, the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Thirsk & Malton. He explained his business background and how he had had an ambition to enter politics for many years. He then answered questions on a whole range of topical issues.

After the visit Mr Hollinrake commented, “I believe we are entering a new political era and that the views and contributions of young people will become increasingly important. “The students at Lady Lumley¹s were clearly well informed and take a keen interest in current affairs and how they may shape the future. I was delighted to have the opportunity to talk to them and look forward to taking up similar opportunities at this and other schools and colleges.”

The Sixth Form will welcome all the Thirsk & Malton General Election Candidates into school on Monday 27th April:  Kevin Hollinrake (Conservative), Dinah Keal (Lib Dem), Alan Avery (Labour), Toby Horton (UKIP) and Chris Newsam (Greens) will be guest speakers to both Yr12 and Yr13 in the Main Hall. Students will have a fantastic opportunity to hear each party's plans first hand and ask questions to our guests ahead of casting their first vote in a General Election.
