Nestle UK speaks to Sixth Form

As part of the PDP Programme, The Sixth Form are always keen to get guests from business and industry to speak to the students. Hot on the tail of the talk from Rosti, on Monday 1st December, the 6th Form students enjoyed a talk from Nestle UK.  Connie Parkin, James Pennington and Mike Fell, who are all in their early 20s, gave an insight on the different skills and attributes that a global company such as Nestle are looking for. Our guest speakers spoke about their different pathways into Nestle:

Connie is a third year student at Birmingham University studying Business Management, and is employed by Nestle during her Placement Year at university.  James is a full-time employee in the Process Engineering department of the York Factory,  having graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Liverpool University.  Mike has progressed straight from School A levels onto the Nestle Academy Fast Track Programme. The Nestle Academy Fast Tract Programme combines part-time study for a BA Hons degree with work-based learning in Nestle’s commercial functions.  Mike said he loves the fact that he is earning a salary while he is studying for a degree .  Nestle also offers apprenticeship opportunities combining work at the York Factory with study at York College for NVQ and BTEC qualifications.

In a competitive environment, where there are more applications than jobs, Nestle reinforced how important it is to have good social skills, a positive can-do attitude and a passion for what you do, combined with the necessary academic requirements.  For more information into opportunities at Nestle, explore
